Police arrest three at Longueuil high school after reports of armed gunman

Students at Jacques Rousseau high school in Longueuil have been confined to their classrooms in a lock down after a 9-1-1 call reported a gunman was inside the building on Monday;September 17;2012.

MONTREAL - Students at Jacques Rousseau high school in Longueuil have been confined to their classrooms in a lock down after a 9-1-1 call reported a gunman was inside the building.

Police are at the school on Gentilly Street E. and a tactical squad has been conducting a thorough search of the premises.

Global News has confirmed that three people have been arrested and one weapon, an air pistol, has been seized.

No one was injured and no shots were fired, although several students have been transported to hospital to be treated for shock.

Parents are advised to call 450-463-7191 for further information.

A school lock down is initiated when officials believe that there is a credible threat to the safety of students and staff.

The goal of a school lock down is to keep students and staff safe.

When a lock down is ordered, students and teachers typically remain inside their classrooms.

All doors are locked and windows are shut, locked and covered to prevent anyone from entering via the hallways and to obscure visibility.

Students are usually asked to stay away from doors and windows in an area where they cannot be seen.
