EDMONTON – Two parents accused of abusing their twin two-year-old girls are set to appear before the Alberta Court of Appeal on Wednesday.
The girls were hospitalized in May after they were found in their home weighing 13 and 16 pounds respectively.
One of the twins, who is suffering from a life-threatening injury, went into cardiac arrest and remains in hospital in a coma.
A judge ruled on Friday that the young girl must be taken off life support, but a stay of proceedings was granted a few hours later.
The parents of the girls have been charged with numerous offenses including two counts each of aggravated assault, two counts each of criminal negligence causing bodily harm and two counts each of failing to provide the necessities of life.
The couple cannot be named to protect the identity of the children.
